    Recovery points on a series 2 Discovery?

    Hi everybody;

    I've recently purchased my first Land Rover; a Series 2 facelift Disco SE, and I'm wondering where the front recovery points are. I can see two welded steel loops but to me they look more like vehicle tie down and towing points; they don't look man enough to cope with a snatch or winch recovery.

    It is fitted with an ARB bullbar; but not one from the upper end of the catalogue. It's steel but has no provison for a winch nor Hi-lift jacking points; just recesses for the light clusters, foglights and headlight washers. Oh; and two pairs of brackets for spotties and ariels. I've seen plenty of pictures of bullbars fitted with dynamo eyebolts but surely these would need some form of reinforcing behind them; some 2" angle iron maybe?

    Are there any OEM or aftermarket "proper" recovery points that can be fitted? Or are the welded towing loops much stronger they they look?

    Thanks in advance.

    AS Evo said, they are only tie down points.

    On the left front of the vehicle there is an OEM point,a welded loop,on a bracket.

    I used it many times for recovery and had no issues, but some say it is for towing only.

    Maybe with the fitment of the bar,it has been removed?

    With the ECB bar it was behind the front skirt and useless, but with the standard ARB bar,it could still be used.

    For heavy duty recovery dual jake rings are the go.

    One of our site vendors does recovery points to suit.

    You would have to ask about compatibility with the ARB bar.

    Thanks guys; I must admit I didn't give plate type points a thought; I'm used to only ever really seeing the hook types.

    The picture of the ATP brackets is pretty clear; tomorrow I'll have another poke around underneath and see if I can spot any obvious problems with fitting this type.

    Scarry; forgive my ignorance but what is a "Jake" ring?

    I had very similar points to the APT ones on my D2's that both had ARB bars with no problem.

    Give Ben at APT a buzz or PM him through here.. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/members/aptfab.html

    He'll definitely be able to tell you if there are any dramas with those points and an ARB Bar. (Which i doubt there are)
