Touring Recover Gear - Check List

Be interesting to see what recovery gear members carry when touring....extended touring, although there probably not much difference when doing weekend stuff.

I have the following, generally travel solo.

    - PTO Winch with 30m 12mm Dyneema (been siting on the winch for three years, never used, wonder what the life span is)
    - 15m 12mm Dyneema Winch extension
    - Tree protector
    - Snatch Strap (probably needs replacing 10+ years old only used once maybe twice)
    - Snatch Block
    - 3 x Shackles
    - Damper
    - Recovery Hitch for the rear
    - Jate rings up front
    - 4 x MAXTRAX

The winch rope should be OK after only 3 years Depending on how much it has been used and as long as it hasnt been exposed to direct sunlight or excssive heat.
Replace the 10 year old snatch strap and Bin it, They are Not that expensive and why take unnecessary risks with something that takes a hell of a beating even with only one recovery.
You forgot to mention a long handled shovel which is by far the most useful tool in Most recoveries.
You only get one shot at life, Aim well

My recovery gear has never been used, I should look for a expiry date. I still have long soft slings wrapped in plastic , snatch and extension straps never been unrolled. Snatch block and shackles still in the plastic container they have been in for 20 yrs or so and in fact I looked at those last week because I had forgotten what was in the box.

Only ever carried cumalongs, no winch.

Axe and shovel completes the detail.

The shovel has only dug bog holes or a fire pit.

I don't get bogged , I use the chicken track.

I’ve been stuck just once, managed to just get my self out l, only had one wrap left on winch drum....

Like you I tack the easy pass everytime.

Long handle shovel, No.2’s the fire pit and available for recovery.
