How to post photos on the forum

Here's some notes written for the Two Wheels forum by my son on how to post photos in the forum.

    Bucko wrote:

I've seen quite a few people aren't sure of how to post pictures on the forum or how to use imageshack to host them, so here's a little tutorial to help out those who don't know.

First off, go to www.imageshack.us and the first screen you come to should look like this:

STEP 1 Click on the browse button. This will take you into your My Pictures folder on your PC. Find your way around and select the picture you want to host.

STEP 2 If you don't know how to resize pics on your PC, use this (optional) function. Tick the box and then select the size you want your large picture resized to. Choose the 640x480 as it is a large enough size for people to see the picture and detail, without slowing down dial-up users too much. Also it means not having to scroll the screen side to side when a large image is posted.

STEP 3 Click the Host it! button.

That will take you to the next screen after the picture is uploaded.

It should look like this if your picture is bigger than about 200x200 pixels.

If you did host a larger picture because detail would have been lost if you shrunk it, don't worry, use the Thumbnail for forum (1) that is circled in green. Copy the whole URL that is there and when you post on the forum it will come up as a thumbnail image like the one circled in green. It shows the size of the image and when you click on the thumbnail in the post on the forum, it will open a new page with the full size image.

If the picture is under about 600x600 pixels, just use the Hotlink for forums (1) circled in blue and copy the whole URL and paste it into your post.

While you can register on imageshack to keep track of all; your pictures, I found it didn't like remembering me when I went back, so I didn't worry too much.

If I want to put a picture up again that I have already posted, it's normally easier to just go back to imageshack and rehost it.

    Thanks Ron.

    Also heed Incisors request:

    http://www.aulro.com/modules.php?name=Foru...iewtopic&t=9765

Such is the capability of digital cameras these days but not band width.

The software recommended by Inc is easy to use.

Under Image you can choose the resizing command and pick the 800x600 option to keep the file size down.

When I post the url of my image from my ISP FTP Server & use the "Insert Image" icon, it does not present the image in the body of the text but posts the url as a link.

Is this normal for using your own ISP Server to post images?

Here's the result of posting all the code choices I get from the image hosting site I use (www.imagehigh.com) for one image I uploaded today. When the image is first posted I get a "Link to Large Image" code that works a treat but is never shown again when you select 'image codes'.

The image part of "Link to Large Image" code:

    Hotlink 1 for forums:

    - clicking on this takes you to the full size image AFTER a whole load of advertising has loaded.

    Hotlink for forums 2:
    [img=http://Serv3.imagehigh.com/imgs/04/28388_PICT0969small.th.jpg
    - same as above.

    Image to friends:
    http://Serv3.imagehigh.com/view.php?...path=/imgs/04/
    - same as above.

    Direct link to images:
    http://Serv3.imagehigh.com/imgs/04/2...T0969small.jpg
    - opens a new browser window with just the image in it. (Yay!)

    My Space HTML code:

    - clicking on this takes you to the imagehigh homepage NOT to the pic.

Direct link to images code pasted into an 'Insert Image' box:
    [IMG]http://Serv3.imagehigh.com/imgs/04/2...T0969small.jpg[/IMG]

Direct link to images code pasted into an 'Insert Image' box, 2nd source:

It seems that if you copy the 'direct link to image' code, paste it into the 'insert image' box and then DELETE THE URL TAGS (if present), that will put the full size image into the post.

Posting a photo from the AULRO gallery into a thread

Prompted by a request from Ron:

Open up your personal gallery (or indeed any other AULRO gallery):

Selected the required photo by clicking on it and it will open with this screen:

Scroll down and you will see two choices: "UBBCode" and "Direct Link"

Select the former by clicking the "copy to clipboard" button along side.

paste this into your post and there it is

Yeah, I have finally worked this out.
I would take it as a guess that the photo u wish to post in the thread needs to be in the photo galley of AULRO?? I have tried various things to no avail & finally realised that if the photo is in the gallery it will come through. I could be wrong & probably are, but thats how it worked for moi...
If anyone has any ideas please let me know..Its a pretty complicated way of posting pics..i think.

You can upload from your own PC.

When you create the post, if you scroll down a bit you'll see a button labelled "Manage Attachments" Press that.

A dialogue box will open which will allow you to browse your PC for the pic and then to upload it. The system will resize it so it isn't too big.

You can upload a mximum of 5 files. Once you've uploasded them, close the dialogue box. Noiw you can preview your message. If it's OK, submit it.

They'll appear as thumbnails in the message.
