why use something that not correct!
when you can get the reflectors re silvered for around $150 and globes a few bucks more
then you have the best for your vehicle
do not take notice of experts who in many cases do not have these vehicles but have a lot of misguided expert info to muddy the waters
there that's my thoughts

I appreciate the ethos of Rover genuine parts when restoring a Land-Rover; I also appreciate the variety amongst Land-Rovers ever since they first appeared on the market. My 80" will be another green clone; I wish I knew more about its history but I am not ashamed by the modern changes I have during the restoration. In any case, the changes Groucho has made to the lighting are not irreversible and nothing of significance has been lost!

I have no problem with what people do with their cars
I like to see effort made to keep it close to the way it was
when you spend a $ or 2 it not much more to try and keep it as it was
my main gripe is with the non owner experts
not owners bring cars back from the brink of the wreckers
the more out there working is what it is about

Well I know the 80 inch in my garage came to me with a 2 litre motor mid 50's radiator panel and mid 50's headlights and grill. I have been lucky enough to find a proper lights behind grill setup and she will be put back on the road with massey fergusson lights bought for $40 and the 2 litre is staying as her heartbeat. I believe that is a better outcome than seeing her as a rusty garden ornament slowly oxidizing away.
Remember that landrovers epitomize the parts bin ethos. The cars originated as a hodge podge of what works and what could be found for cheap and easy.
Well i'm not sure where you get the $800 from???? Alex Ward from Classic Ob Victoria had NOS reflectors for $25 bucks a piece and for the little cost of a globe we have a nice resto. And for the fellow that said he had the displeasure of driving a 80" with candlelights etc etc etc simple solution. Get a defender or later model. I'm out of hear with my last post ever on this forum. Good luck with your modifications

I hope you might return too, bayrover - we can easily take the wrong end of stuff in the format that is these forums - we all love Landies - especially S1's - so we should be able to demonstrate a bit of give and take between ourselves. After all, that is why we all find ourselves here.

But our restos are precious to us - I also think that "butchering" is just not the plan - so sometimes we might bark back.
