Found out the rear diff problem, pinion not engaged with crown wheel and the drive input is very very wobbly/rattley :o
Would reckon pinion bearing collapsed and took everything else with it
Down to chassis behind firewall and confronted with what was once "Black soil" to be chipped off.

S1 wagon in need of work
Love the LWB series1 station wagons wish I bloody didn't sell the one I had, would give my left arm for one. Great find by the way keep us up dated on its progress.
I just caught up with a mate in Chiddingfold and went for a spin in wagon #7 to a local gun shop where we found a lovely 51 in the car park.
Well Guys, great to see so many Series 1 there, but my question, how did you guys get nice straight front fenders, did you purchase new ones, or just lucky finding good ones?
Rob
Mine never had straight guards (fenders) and I like the attitude that Ant took when he restored the Series 1 on "For the love of Cars" he said that they were never truly straight even from the factory and that the imperfections were a part of the character of the vehicle :)
