So punters, the story continues...
When we last left our intrepid reporter he was carting the lifeless body of the
Series 1, 80 inch back to his house for further inspection and a possible autopsy.. :eek:

Well what will he find out punters?
............................. What surprises could the wee beastie have in store?

After a thorough clean (well, a decent tub anyway) he removed things like:-
a birds nest from under the rear on the spring/diff!
Lots of chook wire
Enough old ciggy packets to reopen the company/brand..
Numerous old ammo shells (expended)
A number of old ammo rounds (live )
More chook wire...

what else could be in here???

While we are at it sports fans, in efforts to breathe life into the
non functioning motor, our hero has had to 'rebuild' the dizzy cap
and leads, using a series of different old dizzy caps and leads to fix
up the dizzy cap

During this exercise I noticed something unusual... whilst putting all the leads, caps etc in together I have noticed the spark plug "shrouds" (bakelite) are of three different designs..

what reason would there be for these differences??

i wish you had an app or blog fricking hell you make me laugh, i wish you wernt so far away so we coud catch up.i have no idea what the extra pipe is for maybe a second cleaner part.maybe it is a 49 model and got rebuilt in 51 i heard it was a common thing

Last time we called in on our intrepid adventurer, he was wrestling with the engine in the wee beastie trying to see if it could be resus'ed...

How did he go?
................How bad does it seem??
............................how does he intend to bury it if its dead?

Well Punters read on!

As you can see by the above photos the vehicle is 60 years old this year, and its been "used"!!.

Its still running (well, has!!) original motor, and original radiator, it has an OLDER generator, and looks like original coil and fuel pump.

After rebuilding the dizzy cap and leads, and accepting the SU pump wasn't going to "spring into life" our floundering fiddler had to bypass the starter button (its jammed on!) and take out the aircleaner so he could reach and play with the carby..hooked up a temp. fuel source (brake fluid bottle, bit of old fuel pipe, bit of fuel hose and WHA LAH!;)

Finally she started turning over (using my screwdriver key!) but still no spark...:mad:
Our muddling mindless mechanic was getting very frustrated when he remembered that maybe turing the key on may help (oops!):angel:

And like frankenstiens monster....suddenly..

OH NO!!
Looks like the water pump is siezed , stuck, jammed, buggered, knackered......

it's not moving, nor obviously is the fan, the fan belt is down to cloth and completely useless but the car (which was supposed to be siezed) is running :)

So now Punters it seems I need to look at water pump and then step by step work through things..
Tune in next time for ...well......................, more 'stuff"

80" Land Rovers were built with all sorts attachments to make life easier for the farmer and his wife

So this protrusion was for the lesser known device for cleaning the house, utilizing the vacuum generated by the motor to draw dirt from the floor where the farmers muddy boots have been.

So Land rover gave that device the name of, 80" vacuum cleaner attachment portal, essential for making Wee Beasty feel usefull .

The one with the pipe came out of "HOIST" (the '49 bits car)
but the one I bought when I got this wee beastie is the one I'll send you (standard I believe), just have to clean it out, maybe even give it a thin coat of gloss, weigh it and work out post...

It won't happen overnight but it will happen!

The tub on this wee beastie is very "panel rough" but otherwise good (!!) I may need to look about for another, the one on hoist is obviously different, and the 53 parts car tub is BAD!, So anyone nearby have a spare tub they can spare?

Ahh, these originally used the vacuum head that they later adapted to use as a demister for the windscreen due to lack of sales??? I always wondered..

your a good man digger. it is a shame you are so far away as i probably have a good enough spare tub. i had no luck wit the starter button but as i said ebfore if you find anythig else you might need i shall check. mine doesnt have an engine yet so the air cleaner is in no rush

OK, couple quick questions:

*- part number for the correct waterpump? (im being lazy here I know)

*- best place (and price) to get said waterpump?

*- what else should I be looking at doing as I do this change over?

*- I have removed the thermo housing bolts but it isnt budging at all, other than levering it up is there some other method to remove it?
