Been way to long since I posted on this vehicle.
Finally tracked down a previous owners son who's dad owned it from the mid 60's till he passed away 10 years ago. Also recovered a towing dolly that came with the car originally, it is still missing the Y brackets for hooking the car on, and was told the original engine did exist until about 5 years ago when it was sent to scrap.....so close.
He remembers taking driving lessons in it back in the late 60's,
From what he remembers the RACQ in Townsville owned the vehicle from 1956 till about 64/65 when it was repainted from grey to RACQ cream and auctioned off through an auction house. the RACQ writing was not visible until the 70's when it started to appear.
In the mid 70's it received the 2ltr Series2 diesel engine and front.
By the 70's with changing car front end design it wasn't being used as regularly for recoveries and was only used to tow the owners race car to meets. It was still registered in 1998 and I was given the last rego documents which amazingly have the original engine number on and not the replacement one.
I then ended up under a mango tree where it was found by the person I purchased it off.
That's it for now, so still more research to go.

Was contacted by the RACQ the other day and they are looking into the history of the vehicle.
It looks like it was sent to Townsville and from there was possibly used out at Mt Isa.
They have also confirmed that the towing dolly was attached to the front when not in use and there may have been more than one tow vehicle made for smaller regional areas between Brisbane and Cairns.
Fingers crossed more history comes to light.

Also looks like the RACQ series one land rovers never had a spare wheel on the bonnet so Ill either have to look for a 109 bonnet less spare or remove one and patch it up.
