Just did that.
Green 86" gone to a new home.
Cleaned all the leaves outa tha chassis/body 86" .
No finds, just doors and an oil bath a/f (not sure it's Landy at the mo).
Tomorrow if I get time after work I'll strip I'd down more!

I also have a 1950 S1 (mine with a '49 sideplate engine though). Coincidentally I also have a brother living in Stoneville. I'll have to call around next time I'm over your way visiting and have a look at what you've got.

According to the Faulls Motors records, your 06109135 was originally despatched with engine 06109359 on "29/5/50 to Thopson Bros. Carnarvon?"

Off-hand I can't help you much with the question regarding the early rocker cover and later engine, but there are several other ways to pick an engine. There are differences in the sumps, rocker covers (obviously you are aware of this one) and a few other giveaways.

I'm sure a few experts will be along shortly. Make yourself known in the WA section too, as we're always looking out for each other. Welcome along.

Thanks Andy. I found an article (1944) from the state library on wool appraisals which mentioned the Thompson Bros from Carnarvon. I thought ther were from Yardie Creek Station but I read it wrong. I will give the shire or historical society a call to find more details.

Spent a couple of hours on the phone chasing the history of the Carnarvon Series 1's. Spoke to an 85 year old bloke, Bruce Teede, who used to be part owner of Ellis and Teede Engineering in Carnarvon and a roo shooter. He knows a lot about who owns which station and who bought which Landy (by the way he is not a Landy fan even though he has a soft spot for them and owned a few). I ran through the list of S1's sold to the carnarvon area (thanks Andy) and he knew of all but 2. Bruce has some photos of his S1 and is going to email them to me.

The history of 06109135 so far, it was dispatched to the Thompson Bros who owned Moogooree Station which was joined to Merlinleigh Station. The Thompson bros also bought Woodleigh Station. Moogooree Station was later managed by Ted Waters (or Walters).
The owner of Williambury Station bought Moogooree And Merlinleigh Station. The original owner of Williambury Station was Dick Mead and is now run by John Percy. I tried to phone John but it rang out.

As you can imagine, talking to an 85 year old about the past was about disjointed but he kept lots of information coming, so below are points and details made;
1) vehicle 06102330 sold to Ulawarra Past Co. on the 14/12/49 burnt to the ground on Minnie Station due to a build up of spinifex on the car. Bruce was there and watched it burn.
2) Bruce believes there is a 101 on the Williambury Station tip. (I will chase this up when I contact John Percy)
3) Bruce knows a Faulls mechanic, Jim Davies, who now works for "All Wheel Drive" in Jolimont. He said, "what Jim doesn't know about Landrovers is not worth knowing". If you run into Jim, say Hi from Bruce Teede.
4) Landor Station ordered 12 series 1's but requested they have the Series 2 engine or the 6 cylinder engines.
5) The Thompson Bros also bought another 80" in 1950 but they changed the engine to a 3 cylinder Perkins diesel. Bruce actual went to have a look to buy this vehicle from them but was turned away by the slow revving diesel and the low ratio gearbox. He said it was great for checking windmills on bumpy roads but too slow to drive on the road.

If anyone else has a S1 from the Gascoyne area and is chasing the history, message me and I will give you Bruce's number.

I have been trying to get to the station where my 48 was found but the new station owner is a bit strange... I even got a signed letter from Land Rover Australia asking for his help to find missing parts on his station but he doesn't want a bar of it.

In response to your post Jonesy1972 re the batch of Carnarvon Series 1s that were owned by Moorgoorie and Merlinleigh Stations - my grandfather happened to be the Ted Waters you mentioned. He lived on and ran both of those stations in the the 1950s and 60s. From the photos I have and the stories told, they had a pretty rough existence. I believe one of these ended up in Bridgetown - will have to confirm.

There are minor differences but the rocker cover and head are interchangable between the 1600 and 2 litre.

Hello, one of the Thomson (spelt correctly) brothers who owned Woodleigh Station was my Wife's Grandfather. The Thomson's sold the Station in 1983, the current owner is doing a great job of researching it's history and preserving it, but unfortunately it has already been stripped of many of it's relics by previous owners. We've just come back from there and there is no evidence anywhere on the Station of a Series 1.
