    RTC7192 soon available!

    Hi guys,
i am the proud owner of 6 Fairey overdrives that i have collected over the years. Only one of them is any good and its got a pretty well worn laygear.
It still made it a lap of Australia "Lap of Oz in a series2a" was the thread title, but it isnt up to the next epic journey which will be Singapore to UK. So i have to do something.
Before i left Perth after the end of the last journey leg i tried to get some joy out of a couple of local gear manufacturers and it amounted nothing.
Now i have some time on my hands back in the uk i did some digging around and have got prices from two very capable gear manufacturers. Both have been in business over 70 years and one even makes parts for F1 cars.
Both have a few old vehicle enthusiasts i think and i was met with very positive replies. I will in the coming weeks take the complete overdrive to them for some analysis of why the laygear fails. I know from lots of forum posts the various theories like overheating, not enough oil, etc etc but it would be nice to get an expert opinion.
One of the companies has made a new crown wheel and pinion for a friend of my fathers vintage Bugatti. All perfect,,,, but very expensive!
I am confident that the new gears will be better than the old ones and we really have no choice as there are no originals left.

Now the bottom line is that i can get one made for myself and it will cost me X. If i get 10 made it will be X-1, if i get 20 made it will be X-2.
I'm not out to make anything out of this but, if i can help any of you get a decent quality part for a reasonable cost and keep some old Landys doing overland adventures like we did i'm happy.
Just as initial ball park figures i have been told around ?300 ea if i get 10 made.
Maybe with the exchange rate how it is right now thats not so cheap but at lease it will be a top quality part.
Better than some rubbish thats made for LRs !

    Cheers,

    Nobby
