JUST PURCHASED SERIES 1: 1958 109 UTE

thanks for the detailed info on engines.
I was also pretty sure it should have had a side valve engine (by the way, typo, I meant 2 1/4 ohv engine, not 2 ltr ohv. However, can I clarify that you are saying:

"The IOE engine continued in 1958 Series 2 88s, with 109s getting the new 2.25 litre overhead valve petrol engine".

do you mean that the 1958 109 series one could have had a later 2 1/4 ohv engine fitted originally?

according to the engine numbers records that I have researched, this engine is a series 3 2 1/4 engine: 9010-419A.

i would be really pleased if this actually turns out to be the original engine:o

No, I was referring to 1958 Series 2. I admit what I said could have been construed as saying that all 1958 109s had the new engine, but it was only the Series 2 109s. All Series 1 Landrovers had the IOE engine, either 1.6 litre for the early ones or 2.0 litre (two versions) later.

Hi Larry, company car yes. I have had 2 Disco's, D3 and D4 over 7 years, the new one doesn't come to Oz until next year, so I fancied a change. although I was totally torn, as I love the D4.
so hopefully I will get into the new D5 in a couple of years.

D Sport is good, I have the 2 ltr turbo, which is quick, they say quicker than a stock Golf GTI. It is very light, so I can believe it is.

It looks like the righthand side has been repaired. The rear RH corner bracket in the picture is actually a reinforced front LH bracket off a S1 109. The absence of reinforced brackets at the front indicate it's a 107".As far as I know the only other difference between a 107 and 109 back is the holes for the tail lights. 107 D-lights ,109 Pork pies. Inspect it before you spend money!!
