    No 4wd...

    Hi All,
I have been resuscitating (rather than restoring) my 1956 86' for the last 18 months and are ready to get a blue slip for rego. The only driving I have done is a couple of laps around the block and all seemed good. But yesterday I nosed into our steep gravel driveway, and wheel spun getting back out. locked the hubs and hit the yellow button and still wheel spin with no traction from the front end. The drivers side free wheel hub was stuck, (not sure if it was engaged or disengaged) so I pulled it off and the free wheel hub seems OK, put it back on engaged it but still no 4wd.
So I pulled the hub off again and put a spanner on the lock nut and in 4wd nothing happens when I spin the lock nut, I'm thinking a busted half shalf but thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas where I should start...
    Cheers
    Jason

What happens when you pull the lever back into low range?
    Do you get 4wd then?.
Otherwise jack up a wheel with it in gear and see if it will turn by hand, and if the driveshaft turns as well.

Forgot to mention, low range same problem. Looks like something to sort out before blue slip, where is the best place to source axles etc in OZ? Cheers Jason

Most unusual to break a front axle.
Check the hubs again or swap out the hubs for the original drive flanges, then jack up and see if the front driveshaft turns.
I have front axles lying around everywhere getting rusty.

You don't need the front axle working for a blue slip just in case you want to get it on the road.
There is a guy up in QLD that has all sorts or series 1 spares. Russell Rovers he comes on here sometimes.
    123rover50 has good advice.
I had the same problem on a Holden engine one I bought from Tumut some years ago...it was missing the front prop shaft!

Thanks for the info, I'll jack up the front end this weekend and take a look.

I have finally got back to looking at this issue of no 4wd, after 18 months of driving and not needing it!!. The problem is the passenger side free wheeling hub is stripped out. Not sure whether to get another set of free wheeling hubs or put original drive flanges on, I don't do a huge amount of miles and prefer the look of the original drive flanges, any thoughts and does anyone have some drive flanges (or maybe free wheeling hubs) lying around they want to part with?
    Cheers

You may find a matching hub but it will depend on which free wheeling hubs you have.
Can you post a picture of the outside and inside ? I have a single working hub that i may part with.
if you aren't doing a lot of kms i would live without the free wheeling hubs.

Thanks for the offer Ian, but I've decided to put a set of the original flanges back on.
    Cheers
