    small update

    1. went to local hardware and bought some better screws for the fuel supply and fuel gauge rings, the old ones were getting harder to turn due to the worn head on them so decided to buy new, new was phillips head not as per originals

    2. went to another local alum supplier and bought the base for the middle seat in 2.5mm alum, 2mm seemed to flimsy so went thicker. may need some trimming to fit. blue is just plastic wrap on it. needs painting and holes cut out to secure to base. Question - both side panels have a lip on the lids (L shape), does the middle one also have a lip or is it flat alum - nearest side to gearstick???

Unless I am mistaken, the screws on the fuel tank (assuming it is original) are BA, so I wonder whether the ones you got will actually fit. BA is actually a metric thread, so it is likely you have screws that will work, but the thread form is different, so the screws are likely to leak and/or loosen.

    seat base

Re the screws - not sure what they are but they fitted well and screws tight into position - i guess time will tell if they leak or not, still kept originals though...

Tried to fold the alum but that did not work so well, so just cut it out to suit flat - then painted the underside matt black to match rest of vehicle then will need to drill out the holes to secure panel, then paint the top green to match rest of interior. progress for today.

    1. cut down to correct size, prob should have got the supplier to cut to length, angle grinder didn't seem to stable cutting into 2.5mm alum

    2. trail fitment into position, seems ok, dimensions work out for me

    3. underside painted, will need the top painted and holes drilled out...

The plate should be as you have done it , not folded. It normally has a hole with a hinged flap to access the PTO leaver but if you are not fitting a PTO I wouldn't worry .

seet box lid.jpg seat box lid 1.jpg !st is from parts book , 2nd is from workshop manual . I find it strange they show the cover in the parts book without the door for the PTO. All the S1's I have seen have had the door even without a PYO fitted.

    gearbox mounts

Thank you 1950Landy and all other comments.

    1. so went about fitting the alum seat base, put tape on all the holes then drew a line where the alum ends and a centre line where the hole is then overlaid the alum on top to get an idea of where to drill for the holes, worked well

    2. to my surprise all of the holes lined up first time and all fit, so took the guess work out of figuring out where to drill

    3. next step was to paint the top panel in green so just brushed it on like the rest of the vehicle, set aside to dry in the sun

    4. gearbox mounts were annoying me so took them out, supported the gearbox, this type of mount is not the original though of another LR is just to high so out they came to find another solution

    5. went back to the originals and only using half the rubbers (main one) which were ok and very hard to find. so removed the rest and had to cut down (grind off) the centre steel bush for the bolt. both sides fitted this way and it seemed to work out ok, lowered the gearbox fine

    6. bits n pieces left over and not likely to be used from the original mount. all that's left is to place a nut and washer at the base and tighten her up.

ordered some more bits waiting for the mail, just when you think its over with ordering parts something else pops up.

    hand brake n bits

    1. my technique of lining up the holes are to use as many (3) screwdrivers to line up the top and bottom holes, i have decided to use nuts n bolts for this, though the original used screws instead, looks more in keeping with the nut n bolt look

    2. next was to mark out a hole remembering i am using a combination of S1 and S2 floor panels here so there was a hole missing

    3. that floor panel had to come out again, to fit the centre panel over the gearstick first then fit the side panels into position

    4. other side (driver) done as well, again removing the floor panel to make fit, rubber boot got stuck so needed to remove the centre once more to release the boot for the low range lever, finally sorted

    5. handbrake mechanism slotting into position, just needs the bottom to connect up, not sure why my bottom piece is angled making it hard to slot the handbrake mechanism into position, top point is easy enough and lines up well. Assume the big nut is for filling the transfer case - but how do i check the level for the transfer case oil? assume it has no dipstick?

    6. all knobs connected though the yellow knob (4wd) is not sitting quite right so may need to bend.

once the handbrake is sorted will close off the centre seat panel.

After my last effort re advice on gearbox levels, if you can post a photo of the rear face of the transfer case Joe then I may be in a position to make a suggestion re the transfer case oil level.
Might be an idea to hold off securing that middle seat box cover until you've sorted out/replaced the TC oil.

    more bits done

    1. here you go Xtreme - pic of the rear, i think that middle nut comes out to see when the transfer is full I'm guessing???

    2. fitted the speedo cable but the end is missing something, is there a bracket of sorts to hold the cable in place, might need to fabricate something up, also missing the screws/bolts, take it there are two bolts

    3. this is the top of the handbrake assembly not sure if this is the right way round

    4. another view of the bottom, needs to rotate to slot into position but it wont rotate - not sure whats happening here

    5. fixed the vacuum advance tube from the carby - sorted, sorted the gearbox mounts and bolted up, sorted the engine mounts and bolted up...

    6. now onto the seat backs, cut out some fabric underlay to place over the seat back, then have vinyl which needs to be secured somehow into position, then have to find those damn little bolts that secure the seat backs to the brackets

The fitting with a screw slotted head is the level plug. But this is not the standard plug - should be a square headed BSP threaded plug, 3/8" from memory. (about $2.50 from almost any hardware or plumbers supply place!)
