I have recently returned to the world of Land Rover. (I was part of the Forum many years ago before my Disco 1 met a Emu at speed, I then went over to the dark side of owning a Patrol)
I am now the custodian of a Series 1 circa 1958 Shorty.
This will hopefully be a vehicle used in support of Operation Flinders (A youth at risk, wilderness therapy project)
The Shorty will be used to provide a vehicle for "period" appearance in a thematic setting. None of that modern plastic stuff etc!
It has a Holden Red Motor/neg earth and it runs & drives but that is about where it ends.
Appearance wise it is as standard as it needs to be (something that would have been used on the property 50+ years ago)
We are not about spending anything significant (the current patina is perfect for its intended use).
Once given a birthday it will remain on our property in the Flinders Ranges for the term of its natural life.
So I will be looking for parts etc and have started searching the plethora of posts here but there is a lot to read.
We will be happy to use generic parts or custom build minor parts as required however I think it will be easiest to replace brakes/steering & suspension components with standard parts if available to ensure it is safe and task-worthy.
Happy for any feedback and advise re parts.
My main concern will be steering & suspension components.
the Clutch appears to have a buggered pressure plate but will find out when we drop the box.
i am mindful that may be caused by a misaligned Red Motor conversion but my fingers are crossed.
Any knowledgeable Series 1 guru's around Adelaide who want to visit/advise or lend a hand to a worth while cause I am always open for some help/ideas.
