Holes in front cross member are factory and are for the capstan winch mount
They are welded in & when I fitted my winch I used Rivnuts.

Not to mention the two matching holes in the damaged bumper & if one looks closely, the outline of the winch base plate is just visible.

I wonder if the winch connecting drive shaft gubbings are still there or was it removed in total?

    Worth a good look that.

I think most farmers removed the lot then used what they needed to fit the winch to something else , the left over bits were put on a shelf in the shed . when the farmer died or no longer owned the farm the new owner would clean out the shed not knowing what they were for so went to scrap & the winch was either on another bit of machinery or if in the shed would get sold with out the vital & hard to find bits

Oops! I missed (or forgot) that it was definitely a 107! Which of course means that the floating axle is definitely not factory, as that did not appear as an option until April 1957.

    Re winch holes. ^^^^

I don't believe you will be looking for an Aeroparts winch, assuming you will go looking, but some other make that suits the bumper holes.

The Aero has 5 holes across the top of the bumper & 4, ie. 2 each side of the centre line & horizontal on the bumper front face to suit the AP Fairlead Roller brackets.

That is not to stop you fitting an AP if you find one though, & good luck with that.

Vehicle mounted "Dawn" hand winches with reduction gear were quite popular in the 60's and 70's. The holes look a bit too big for a canvas water bag bracket. Then again....

Looks like the one we had that we used to pull welders to top of silos . would have been still there when we sold our business. The new owner probably would have dumped it I guess , didn't like things laying around not being used. Now days all the steel & alum comes in pre cut so as machinery brakes down it doesn't get fixed or replaced. I used to roll & adjust the blades in the Guillotine every 6 months , I was talking to our old Forman other day he was telling me hasn't been touched since we sold , going on 9 years now.

    Its a nice looking 107.
DId you end up finding the chassis number? if not they are also located on front mount of the rear left spring hanger looking from the back.
Also looks like it was fitted with an engine governer, now removed.
Seeing as it still has a standard harmonic balancer I dont think was fitted with an Aeroparts capstan winch but an aftermarket one.
The 107 chassis from when they were introduced had the tubes fitted in the front cross member for the winch even if one wasn't fitted.
    This was later deleted.
    Hope this helps

    Regards,

    Brendan
