Can anyone help with info on my 1952 80"

    Hi,

I live in the UK and a few months ago I purchased a long term project, a very ratty 1952 80".

The VIN is 2616 1122, which means it is a RHD Export Model but not a CKD.

I have purchased it's Heritage Certificate from the British Motor Museum and it shows the First Owner as Champion Motors Ltd in Adelaide.

The certificate also shows it was built on 31/10/51 and despatched from the UK on 8/11/51.

There is a number stamped on the RHS engine mount, 4822.

I was wondering if anyone had any additional information for it.

    Many thanks, Karl.

Apparently the 4 digit number is an ID stamped on it earlier in production before the VIN was assigned to it.

Just to be pedantic, they are chassis numbers in , not VINs!

VINs are an industry wide scheme that appeared, from memory, some time about the early seventies for Landrover, and identifies the maker as well as the model and vehicle.

    Hi Karl,
Something that might help, my 52 (26161454) was sent over on the Scottish star, in early 52 (built prob Oct/Nov 51).
It was the only one of 42CKD vehicles that was sent over completely assembled, perhaps for demo and show purposes, so it does happen that complete vehicles were sent over with CKD units.

If you decode 2616, it isn't a CKD, it is a RHD Export.

I thought mine was a CKD until I checked it.

How did you track down the shipping info ?

Some of the records (Grenville Motors?) are held by someone on this site and they looked it up for me..I think it was Dianna? but the records seem to have disappeared.. they should be put online for AULRO subscribers to access as they are a valuable resource for restorers.
The records gave date delivered, ship, options, key and engine number and dealer where sold and location.
I was fortunate to discover that mine was sold into Oberon and still had original engine, key and pto fitted.

I don't know if there are any records for there, besides the dispatch from the UK end.
