Not a bad idea to push the bidding up so long as the local Gendarmes weren't waiting to see who paid for it.
Bugger! It was only a rumour & the Bikie blokes were really only avid S1 Collectors.
Not sure where to post this. In the latest issue (256) of Restored Cars, page 12, there is a photo and story about a Series 1 "hulk" sold at a clearing sale at Woomalang in Western Victoria. It is sitting on the ground, no wheels, front left guard missing, bulkhead collapsed, axles and bonnet missing.
The bidding started at $5,000. By $15,000 the crowds started to gather. As the bids surged past $30,000, rumors started that it was full of drugs! Final winning bid was $38,000, PLUS 15% buyers premium, bringing it to $43,700!
Anyone near Newstead in Victoria may want to check with Eddie Ford about it, as he has been around too long to post unproven stories. The poster has listed his email, but if you want to contact him it may be better to go and buy a copy of the magazine.

From memory it was a 1948 model. Someone bought it for the chassis number....

Was one of the first 1500 1948 80"s had its original side plate motor and freewheel gesr box, those who know what it truly is will understand its value.
Good news its an Aussie buyer who won and intends to restore it.

Yes. I attended the auction. Was surprised at the cost of landy. The old guy had a lot of cars and bits. A landy motor that was on a huge heap of metal also went of a few dollars. Should have bought my project when I was out there. Cheers
