    80" 2ltr Eng Block colour?

    Hi guys

Finally getting to the engine. Have walked past it and touched it, stroked it and patted it for months now while GB and Xfer case are away and I fixed my front swivel error (Shims and leaks :0( ) OK!

On with it, first observation is that where it still exists the block is painted a dark blue (Navy perhaps) not the Turquoise that I expected and have seen on S1s everywhere. Is the dark blue an original colour, or would it be a repaint?? If it is a LR dark blue, what would the colour be?

Alterntively the original turquoise synthetic or cellulose has degenerated to the dark blue??

    Cheers

    RF

    For any further reference.

Have discovered that 80'' 2ltr blocks/engines were dark blue. Lightblue/turquoise blocks were for Army engines.

    Cheers

That blue appears to have a tint of Hammerfin (?) iridescence in it. ???????

The closest colour you will get to it is GM Blue available from Supercheap & the likes in a pressure pack can of engine enamel .IMAG0854.jpg

James Taylor's book lists them as blue/grey.

Not sure how accurate these colours are (plus difficult to tell on a computer screen).

If it was CKD did the engines get delivered painted or were they painted here ? I would think they came already painted but CKD vehicles can have differences to UK assembled.

The last couple of years of the 80" apparently had the 2 litre motor.

    Thanks Colin, didn't know that.
I thought the 2L started with the 86.
I suppose it would have been the Siamese bore one?
