    Ignition Coil

Will a c80 be a suitable direct replacement for my very old and original Lucas coil?

I don't know the C80, but it will work if it is 12v and designed to be used without a ballast resistor.

Ideally, it would be designed for positive earth (assuming you still have that), but in practice this makes no detectable difference.

Any modern coil almost certainly has a snap in HT connector, so you will have to change the end on the HT lead, but this not an issue unless you are a rivet counter.
