Does everything work?
Coming home the back way Thursday, stopped to help elderly couple change a flat tyre, even though 'dad' was quite capable, I said I would stay and help, till moving again..
Mention I had only passed this way in my Series 3 Monday. (BSF)
I have a couple of land rovers on the farm, dad replied, people have been trying to get them off me for years.
What are you going to do with them,
Nothing.
Well dont let them rust into the ground.
For stopping and helping, you had better come and look at them, and dive the S3 up.
In the mean time Corrina had been talking to 'mum' who had invited us to stay in there B&B Cottage for a night, for stopping, and helping.
On parting i asked, what are they ?
Series 1 and 2.
We exchanged phone no's, and yesterday had a text, reminding us of the 'deal' and they had just had just passed me on the road.
There surname. 'Gilbert'
So what to look for when aging a Series one ?
Thanks whitehillbilly

The 1st number in the chassis no is the year. So if a 0 its a late 49 / 50 if it's a 1 its a late 50 / 51 & so on. If the chassis is painted silver with tractor lights behind the grill & round hole in the floor for the ring pull ie's a 48
Had a look today.
some info.

From the chassis no looks like a 53. With a 2L motor.
Few more pics.
According to my book it is a 1953 Land Rover CKD RHD basic built between Aug 52 & July 53 & would have been the 1270 vehicle built. You will need to look at the dates on the electrical units (starter , gen , distributer , all Lucas parts will have a date stamped on them including the switches) to get an approx. build date usually 1or 2 months after the date on the Lucas part .
This is a good find just needs some D lamps paint the tyres a vacuum & back on the road,
Has it got a stewing wheel bit hard to tell from the photo & that back X member & what I can see of the bulkhead looks sound in the photo.
Before you start spending any money on that car get yourself a workshop and parts manual !
