    Distributor question

Just checking that the dizzy only locates one way into the engine drive[ie not at either position 180 degrees apart?]
In what position should the face of the rotor be at 10 after tdc ? Mines pointing from lead 3 towards lead one[rotating towards one at 10 degrees with both no 1 valves closed..[looks more like it’s nearer 3 than one]

Trying to check that side thoroughly before looking at a fuel issue .....if anyone has the time could they post up a pic of the dizzy at 10 degrees after tdc so I can see the rotor position
    Cheers mark

Yes the distributor drive will only locate in 1 position in the shaft. The relative position (angle) of the rotor will depend though on how the lower drive shaft is engaged on to the gear on the cam shaft. In fact you can move the drive gear around on the cam gear to effectively rotate the whole distributor housing to fix issues with it fouling on the tappet cover etc.

The effective way to set the rpugh timing is to find TDC, note the rotor angle, and set the distributor housing rotation so that the rotor is pointing to cylinder #1 in the cap.

Little chance of rotating the alloy distributor housing it’s well seized to the block[on both blocks I have infact]

I believe FA 10 degrees is before TDC As long as the larger segment of the shaft points towards #3 spark plug , with both #1 valves closed your basic set up must be correct.
I've got two spread bores sitting on the floor, both without compression. To determine the compression stroke I would have to remove the valve covers, which I'm not prepared to do. Sorry

I’m starting to think fuel side, either the filter in the su pump or a restriction somewhere .....I’ll try the 500 mm in 30 sec test and check those flat valves later tonight/tomorrow ,I’ve been over and over the electrical side, swamped out coils and condensors checked points plugs etc...getting a blue spark across plug gap and a strong spark from coil lead to earth

Frustrating as hell as it’s ran in the last two weeks

Next time ask a simple question. Something about tyres, or grease v oil in the swivels , or GL4 v GL5 gear oil or the benefit of free wheeling hubs or even fuel consumption, anything that does not involve pictures.

I just went through this with a guy from the Rover Car Club but for him I had to pull out the distributer. I will try to get a photo sum time tomorrow for you. I see you say you can't turn the distributer , have you loosened the clamp at the base of the distributer & loosened the clamp securing bolt , then give it a good spray of wd40 & leave it sit for a couple of days

Pour some juice down the carby . If she fires and dies you'll know to zig or zag.
