Ongoing. Have passed removing the timing gear and chain and I am left with the tensioner "pawl, spring and pawl pin"
WS manual states 5/16 BSF thread inside the pin but I have found that while it is a the right thread it is a blind hole. Suspect I will need to use a slide hammer. Is this correct??
Oooooo! That is such a pretty and clean engine. :0) Mine is still filled with the pre-detergent oil gunk, and everything is carbon/black . Getting there though.
Now begs another question:
Having been caught once before when I stroked a Rangy 3.5 to 4.2. Once the block goes into the "cooking" cleaning bath one has a very pretty ****e and briney block. Looked schmick, and with new water jacket welch plugs, unfortunately for me the engine shop didn't pull the oil gallery plugs and clean them out. This was something I was unaware of at the time. All the gunk had been loosened. Rebuilt engine could have been destroyed, but the now free sludge was detected in time and only cost me a new camshaft, plus another strip, clean out and rebuild.
Currently on ye olde S1 2ltr 3 1/2 water welsh plug engine I found it had an oil pipe running from one end to the other and I have found the bung/plug at the front and Lo! there be a screwed plug in the pretty engine in the post above. Would suppose there is another plug behind the flywheel when I get it off.
Any advice on removal for gallery cleaning would be appreciated. Anyone supply replacement plugs or does one need to manufacture and tap in new ones as ended up happening on my 4.2.
Yes there is another plug behind the flywheel. I didn't remove the water channels but every single other plug and ultra sonic cleaned the oil line(s). m
