Has anyone ever done a truely Australian Green & Gold Landie?

I've been sorting through all the bits and pieces that need to go off for zinc plating and it occurred to me that for no additional money or effort, I could get the guys to drop all the zinc plated items in the chromate solution that gives that attractive gold-like finish we see with Cad plated items.
The chromate and LR green would be the perfect all Ozzie colour combination.

Has anyone seen such a patriotic Landie? Might be fun.

    regards
    Jeff

When you say zinc plating do you mean the galv capping's. After the galvanizing process the hot galv pieces are dipped in a quenching tank that has a chemical added to the water this will give the galv a yellowish green tinge , this is to stop what is called white rust which is a white powder that forms on the galv if it gets wet . This colour will fade away after a short period of time in the sun, couple of weeks to a month. It is important if the item is to be painted after galvanizing that you tell the galvanizers that it is going to be painted & not to quench the job as it will effect the paint , & if it is to be powder coated the chemical forms gas pockets in the galv which will burst in the heating process during powder coating causing small craters in the paint finish.

As 1950landy stated, the cappings are hot dip galvanised not zinc plated.
Hot dip will last considerably longer.

The finish you are describing might look different but could seriously impact on the vehicles future value because all the cappings would have to be removed again and done properly.
