A simple vague question, deserved a simple answer.
    Thanks Larry.
I just picked up a tatty Series 3 with a 2 1/4 'running' ? Diesel motor. Was going to be crushed.
It was used as a surf rescue boat launch vehicle for many years.
Parked up years ago for a new small tractor, I guess.
Hopefully, pick up the S1 tomorrow, and was thinking if the 2L motor needed a lot of work,
    To put the Diesel in.
Was it a 'simple' fit Larry, or did it need a bit of work to fit.
    Thanks for your comments.
    Pics please ?

A word of caution - 80inch Series 1 are getting to be worth a bit these days - if original!

Yes I agree but I also accept people can do to their own vehicles what they want. If OP does want to go the diesel route, make no permanent modifications to the 80 and keep all parts so it can be converted back when needed.

The 2.25 was already fitted when I bought it nearly 20 years ago. It also has a Series 3 gearbox but the rest of the drive train is original.
From what others have told me the engine mounts on the chassis are standard, with a type of 'adaptor' off something else between the chassis & engine.

I'll try to get some pics for you.

The bellhousing is different between the 2.0 and 2.25 engines, so you need to either fit the Series 3 box or swap the bell housing if you want to use the Series 1 box. Unfortunately the Series 3 bellhousing is set up for a hydraulic clutch, so with this bell housing (on either the S3 box or the S1 box) you would have to redesign the clutch linkage. To use the S1 box, you would need to fit a Series 2 bell housing or very early Series 2a, as the Series 3 (or later S2a) bellhousing will not fit the S1 box anyway!

Apologies for the oil on the outside of the engine, it is a Land Rover after all.
