The chassis number should be the same as the one on the aluminium bulkhead plate unless there has been a bit of a mix and match in the past. If you look hard at the triangular plate on the LH front engine mount welded onto the chassis, you should see the engine number starting with the same 3666 model code stamped along the longer face of the triangle. This code indicates that this is a 1953 model year (Mostly August '52 to end of July "53 in UK , April to April on the early 80") RHD , export, CKD. The CKD flat pack took a few months to get to Brisbane by slow boat and then had to be assembled, tested and sent to the selling dealer. The last 4 numbers tell us that Rossco is the 1,270th RHD export CKD '53 model year produced My '53, (the 1575th) was actually delivered to its first owner on 31/08/1953, a month after the 1954 86" models were released onto the UK market. You are correct, the round disc on your radiator IS the date of manufacture. Usually, the first number is the month, then a capital "M" indicating month and then the year. From memory mine is 3M53 = 3rd month 1953. All the Lucas parts still fitted will have a date stamp as well (1152 = Nov 1952 etc.) Most of the dated bits on mine are around March '53 and the carbie is late '52, so if Rossco's parts haven't been swapped over, they will probably be similar to mine.
Rossco has had a tough time and will keep you occupied for a while! Have fun! 5380
Thanks 3580
this plate ? Number runs side parallel to guard ?
Or the edge, when you look through the guard, over the wheel ?

I have also seen a chassis number stamped on top of the front X member & also between the L/H engine mount & front of the vehicle . Not sure why. the other place I have seen them is the R/H front of front spring hanger & on top of the X member in front of the diff. not sure why there as you would need to remove the tub to see it.
My 1950 80" is no the engine mount though.
Good Evening.
Trying to take the head of my 53. 80inch.
Removed head bolts, but wont shift. Noticed two large nuts holding holding rocker shaft, along with 3 smaller bolts. They are marked X in the tightening sequence, image in the workshop manual. Remove them to remove head ???? Are these tightened at the end of the sequence, when refitting ?
Does the Siamese bore have a oil feed pipe to the head like later motors. ?
Thanks.

Yes. Rocker shaft hold down bolts go through the head. Note that there are two different size bolts with different torque settings - 30/50lb ft.

head.jpg The note under the drg of head states the two bolts marked X must be pulled down after fitting rocker shaft.
There should be an oil feed from the oil light sender to the back of the head.Image (3).jpg
Good evening.
Had the head off. Freed up Std pistions. Bore looks good, no ridge at the top.
Looks like it had been running very rich, before parked up, 38 years ago, which may have helped.
Drilled out plug remains, going up one size at a time.
Head looks good. All valves freed up nicely.
Can find a oil feed for the rockers though. No external pipe, or holes for fittings.
Pics to come.
Any ideas ????
Thanks.
