    S1 Weather Seals

    Hi Everyone,

When I dismantled my '53 80" the weather seals around the doors and windscreen were pretty trashed and some were missing. Now that I am starting to reassemble, I realise that I don't actually know what weather seals I am going to need. The vents and under windscreen as fairly obvious, but are all the front , rear and Botton doors seals the same foam extrusion, just cut to different lengths? My last two restoration had entire kits of seals, usually made up of 60 to 70 different profiles. averting only fitted one way and it was impossible to get it wrong.

The images in the parts manual for my Series1 are not good enough to see what shape each seal is, and even well known suppliers only show images of rolls of stuff, with no profile detail.

Can someone point me in the direction of what these seals should look like, where I might source them from at a sensible price or what lengths to order?

One site even suggested buying Series door top & Bottom seals.jpg
a roll of seal and use that on everything, so I'm a bit confused.

    many thanks
    jeff

I've seen correct seals now available for later models but they are very expensive. Haven't seen them for Series I's but I haven't been looking.
The correct seal has a slot for a steel strip to be slid inside, there are various poor quality replicas.

But as pointed out in the second link it's not correct. The lip is way too big and the slot for the steel strip is also too big.
Clark Rubber were much cheaper than Scotts but not sure if they still keep that profile.

I did find a similar profile at Clarks but without the slot, I used it on the hardtop of my Series I (it's home made so the seal was glued rather than riveted in place). This worked well.

I wouldn't buy too much of the seal until you've seen a sample.

Why not just buy the correct seal from someone like the Series 1 Club.

Do they list the correct seal ? Just looked and they list a 'new profile' seal for 86"/88" (wonder why it's listed as a new profile, old one wrong ?) 5GBP per metre plus I guess you need to be a member.
Series II & III seals are available with the strips inserted and pre-shaped, about $200 per door. I haven't seen these seals to confirm how accurate they are but everyone & their dog is now listing them.

Any Series I Club members on here that could order some seal ? Happy to pay all costs involved.

I mentioned the Series 1 Club as an example - there are plenty of other parts suppliers overseas and here like the Series Shop.

I do not understand why people go to all the trouble in refurbishing their vehicles and then cut corners on things like door seals.

Problem is a lot of things like door seals are never correct, you buy some and get disappointed. Probably why the Series I Club list the 86"/88" seals as 'new profile' ? Interesting that they don't list 80" door seals....
They would have to go to an extruder and get tooling made, someone like the Series I shop would probably find something that's available, I doubt that they would invest in tooling and a minimum production run.
With Series II/III seals at over $200 per door (and I don't know how accurate they are) I fully understand why people cut corners on door seals. I'd like to see a set of these seals before committing.

I'd never fit Defender seals to a Series but most of my original seals are OK'ish. On my Series I the seals have decomposed, I was trying to replace before Cooma 2008 but haven't bothered until I can find the correct profile.

    Hi Colin,
The UK Series 1 Club is happy to supply to us here is Ozz. I just purchased quite a bit from them for my S1 restoration.
