    Waking Up Landy.

Landy has been sitting in the garage in hibernation , being used as storage for well over 1 1/2 years now due to all car events being cancelled , the other day I decided to wake her up.

The 1st problem , the battery was flat even though I keep her on a solar charger. What I discovered is that when we had our pool solar heater installed on on the garage roof they installed it over the charger collector , "dumb bums" so after 2 days on my smart charger find the battery needs replacing.
So with my BMW battery fitted I turn on the key & no fuel pump click so gave it a tap with a small shifter & it came into life. but no fuel getting to carby. Out with the mower fuel can & top up tank with what was left in the mower fuel can. Turned on key again only to find the new flexible fuel hose from the pump to carby has been eaten away internally by the unleaded fuel . The fuel pump, carby & all the fuel lines were only replaced just over 3 years ago. Lucky I never through anything away , I found my old fuel hose & fitted it this morning. turned the key , choke out couple of pumps on accelerator , pressed the started button & Landy burst into life.

The next job was to try the clutch , it would not disengage so shifted wife's car placed chocks under the front wheels , started the engine , handbrake on , depressed clutch & quickly pulled gear leaved back into 2nd. All good
So off to day to get a new battery , shift the solar charger , then remove every thing that is piled up on Landy so I can take for a drive to make sure everything is working OK .

I know I should have been starting her regularly but being used as storage under the car cover there was always something else to do. So this weekend will be the test drive & may be a few more jobs to do.

One question , I am looking for a new flexible fuel hose , Dingocroft in the UK state there's are unleaded compatible , has anyone used them for parts ? I have never been successful when I have contacted them after parts & for cost of delivery , they never reply to emails. Or dose any one know were I can buy one of these hoses that is suitable for unleaded ?20210107_154730.jpg 20210108_084511.jpg20210108_084515.jpg

    replacement fuel hose

I've had similar problems with unleaded fuel. I purchased replacement generic hose (Goss?) from somewhere like Bursons or Repco. For good measure I added an in-line disposable paper filter. No problems since.
Re Dingocroft remember right now it's the dead of winter in the UK and there's a Covid pandemic of biblical proportions. They were a pleasure to deal with when I bought a replacement fuel tank filler tube some years back.
    Cheers, Rob S

It is not just recently with Dingocroft have not bothered even looking at there site in last 5 years, I have owned my S1 for 35 years over that time I have contacted them a number of times without any reply's so don't waist my time with them now. The hose I am using at moment is "Goss " from Repco , I want the original type & have found some one local who can supply unleaded compatible that looks like the original. Thanks all sorted I hope.

Went to fit new fuel hose to Landy yesterday, but could not get the flex hose to screw onto the pipe Inked135791577_1151594735297171_2530892031615458726_o_LI 2.jpg after having a think about I had a look this morning & found the copper pipe that was supplied in the fuel line kit from the UK was made wrong & the flex hose had the wrong fitting . New hose on left 20210122_083325.jpg The one from UK had a flat seat the new one had a tapered seat 20210122_083443 1.jpg Also the one from the UK was 25mm longer which made it hit on things around it. 20210122_083522.jpg You will have to excuse my drawings but this is what I did fuel pipe.jpg Top pipe & hose was from UK , the pipe stuck through the olive about 8mm , this tapered olive some how managed to seal against the flat sealing surface inside the flex fitting. I cut the pipe back to the olive & the olive matted with the tapered seat in the fitting of the new flex hose. So the kit I bought from the UK the hose was made from the wrong rubber & only lasted 3 years, & also the fittings joining the hose to the pipe were not a matching set. So all back together with no leaks & the hose is not rubbing on anything around it.
