Help to read sales or delivery info on a series one 80in

I’ve had some help from here on finding info on my series one 80in 3666206.
I can see it was sold late 1953 so it would possibly be one of the last few dozen assembled and sold because of travel time for a ckd from uk.
I just need an interpreter as I can’t read who it was sold to or where it went?
Mines the third line, my daughter made it darker but We can’t read it.
    thanks.

I can't read it either - perhaps have more of a chance if you could rotate it so I don't have to hold my head sideways.

Even around the right way it's hard to read.B8EC2281-4B1A-4C22-B19A-295C450A3758.jpeg
The word at the top left of the left page appears to be Stratheden, which is situated between Kyogle and Casino in the Richmond valley NSW.

Stratheden, I am pretty sure, is the name of the ship that the kits travelled on.

I have had a play with the image on GIMP, but have not significantly improved it.

If I had had handwriting that bad in my 6th grade class in 1953, I would have been in some pretty severe strife!

Fascinating history! The writing in the ledger is a bit difficult to read! I would love to find out a bit more about my '53 80". I thought that mine was fairly late in the run, but obviously there were quite a few after mine. My 80", Chassis 36661765, Engine No. 36109308 arrived on an earlier shipment to Grenville Motors and was delivered, I think, by Empire Motors at Wyoming near Gosford NSW at the end of August 1953. The name E.J. Saunders Narara is painted on the RH front wing along with the then compulsory weight listings. Narara is not far from Gosford, so I am assuming that Mr Saunders was the first owner. Also, it appears that a small rectangular ID plate has been removed from the RH side of my dash panel. I am wondering if this was where the Grenville Motors ID plate was fitted? Does anyone have a picture of a 1953 vintage Grenville Motors plate, or know anything about Empire Motors or E.J. Saunders? I would be very grateful, if anyone could help with even the smallest bit of info.

    Frantic,

I forgot to mention in my earlier post, that if you need any information on late 3666 CKD 80's, I would be delighted to assist you in any way I can. I was lucky that mine was kept quite original by the two previous owners, and could be quite helpful to anyone restoring a 2.0L 80". Good luck with your research.

Mines in pretty original condition, original engine was running, and I drove it onto the car trailer , fuel tank has a leak as does radiator so I’ve gotten radiator out but will probably need to grind the bolts on the fuel tank as their locked solid with 70 years of Dubbo dust😀
Thanks for that, im just trying to find when it was built in Oz and who it was sold to as yours and mine where probably built after production of the 86/107 had started in UK.
yes the handwriting is terrible, makes mine look good.

    Frantic,

Thanks for the info on your 53. You are probably correct about our 80's being retailed at least, after the new 54 models went on sale in the UK. I am not exactly sure when our CKD 80s were assembled in Aus, but from the dates on my carbie, radiator, dizzie, regulator, coil, ignition switch and generator, I would guess Rover built mine around April or May '53 and a little later for yours. Rover liked to release new models in late Summer, or early Autumn rather than colder months. From memory the 86 and 107 models were launched early September 1953 (UK) as the new 1954 models. The new 86 and 107s were probably being set up for production during July 53. I have a 54 107 with June 54 dated parts and a very early 55 107 RHD CKD model (chasssis #30) with August 54 dated parts. Your 80 was probably built June towards the end of 80 production. I don't imagine there was much 80 production in July 53 as Rover would have been flat out setting up to build the new 86/107 models. Traditionally Land Rover generally shuts the plant around July to do a major model change over and plant upgrades and then gets stuck into producing the new models in August for release in late August or early September.
Have a look at the production dates on your Lucas electrical components (553 = May '53 etc.) Solex carbie (letter L for Land Rover, then letters A-M followed by year 53 etc. Solex didn't use the letter I), so a carb marked L F53 would mean June 1953. The radiator - (round copper disc on top tank with a number 1-12, the letter M for month followed by the year, so 6M53 = June '53.
Hopefully, not too many parts have been changed over the years. If you can locate some date stamps, post them and I will help you work out when Rover made your CKD flat pack. Also, hopefully somone out there can find some Grenville Motors info.
