    Crank/ Starter Handle

    Gentlemen,
I've had no joy trying to acquire a crank/starter handles for my '53 S1 80", so could someone please tell me what diameter steel rod Land Rover used for these, so I can try to make my own? I guess that its around 10mm and not of any specific grade. Is that a fair starting point?

    regards

I have a couple of Series II/2.25l Petrol engine crank handles, I don't know if they are allowed to cross the border to WA though!
    Photos below showing dimensions.
The main shaft is 18mm dia & the cross pin at the end is 7.5mm dia x 30mm long.
I'm not sure if these are also suitable for the Series I - someone will probably let us know before too long.

I am pretty certain the crank handles are interchangeable if not identical.

And just to be pedantic, the crank is 3/4" diameter, and the crosspin 5/16" diameter and 1 3/16" long. The handle on the crank is a steel tube that is a loose fit on the shaft with a groove rolled into it that fits into a groove turned into the shaft before it is bent. You can do without this provided you are only using it for engine adjustments but starting without it you would need gloves (one, anyway!).

I had 10 crank handles at one stage cut them all down to suit LR 80" with capstan winch's. Only got one spare left I think, but not much use to you.

    Many thanks Gentlemen,
The information you provided is exactly what I needed.

Postage was prohibitive from the UK, due to the size, and how that I have the dimensions, I'll get some round rod and make it up myself.
    Many thanks and greatly appreciated.
    regards
    Jeff
