I now have some more numbers from the above vehicle and would appreciate confirmation or otherwise of it being an early 1951 model.
Engine Number: 06113689
Gearbox Number: 16103452
Unfortunately I haven't been able to get the chassis number.

The engine No is 1950 & Gearbox No is 1953.
The 1st number in Chassis / Gearbox & Diff Numbers are the year, The Diff numbers are stamped on the top of the long side of the Diff housing . The Chassis number should be stamped on the top of the L/H engine mount bracket on the chassis & will be a 8 digit number , there could also be a R stamped . There may also be a 4 digit number 1/2 the height of the chassis number which has nothing to do with the chassis number , I always believed it to be a stock number but this may be incorrect. There should also be a brass chassis plate Approx 60mm X 40mm on the L/H bulkhead just below the bonnet on early S1'sor the number would be on the Transfer leaver plate on the dash on later S1's

Thanks 1950Landy - I've saved all of those and they are quite readable.
I'm driving to Darwin on Tuesday and I'll have time while up there to read and digest all the info supplied so I think that will suffice for now.
Thanks again for your diligence in photographing and posting it all, much appreciated.
Well, after a few months of cutting, welding, panel beating, patching and pop riveting the body is in reasonably respectful shape again. At least good enough to serve for my firewood storage next to Horne's Hut. Still a bit of work to do but it is at least in position and being put to good use again - even if not it's original purpose.

I was surprised, considering the extent of the damage, how easy it was to get the panels back to somewhat like their original shape
