help - how to install a new SU fuel pump - comments and photo's please

I made the plate out of thick rubber, as that what was fitted.
Didn't know it was solid?

I have ordered the one I showed in a photo in earlier posts - soon see what it is made of.
Still bit unclear what side of the aluminium board/plate it goes
I guess a bit of trial and error
The rubber plate makes sense - it looked like rubber

thanks - yes I think mine is aluminium - which matches what you have said below.
I doesn't have any rust - which is why I was thinking it wasn't original - but now think it is likely to be

Back view.
The two extra holes are for the nine-terminal regulators that were fitted to some models.
Again, consult your parts manual for details.

Large washers, special bolts with locking hole. Rubber grommets which protrude to the other side.
Other side the rubber/Steel plate, which has holes that sit over the protruding grommets. Bolts then screw into the Fuel Pump body and are wire locked.
Two larger ones used.

Quick Update

So received the vintage "plate" part in mail today and what looked like green coloured metal in the photo was actually black rubber, covered in a fine green dust
I guess as it was packed on 6/1957 (on packaging) - so had time to develop/gather a layer.
So that is exactly what you have whitehillbilly in your setup
A metal plate didn't make sense - but now does - its actually rubber

It didnt help that LRover describes it as a "Plate Petrol Pump Mounting"

will post a photo of it fitted when all the other bits arrive from UK and I get time to fit it

I am thinking I have the right backing plate - once i get rid of old pump and flasher unit - then need to attach my new pump.
the 80" is a distance away from me in a shed and will have a look at it next week - with this new info.
