That number does not seem to be in the CKD list for 1950, so is most probably a fully assembled export vehicle from Solihull.

No the engine number will rarely match the chassis number, they are usually within several hundred of each other. Yours quite possibly the original.

Have you tried the British Motoring Industry Heritage Trust in the UK? They have the original dispatch books and this usually includes the engine number and colour.

Yes the front end was moved 2" further forward to clear the 2 litre diesel engine. And therefore the 2.283 litre engine fits in very nicely thank you.

Regarding the doors, they are basically similar from 1954 through 1958 however the perspex is replaced by glass for the fixed panel and the machined 1955 window locks are actually better that the later dicast types.

Yes - deliveries of 88 and 109 petrol versions started at the end of August 1956, but the diesels did not eventuate until June 1957, possibly because of poor sales of existing stock resulting from the the Suez crisis and consequent petrol shortages.

The system where you could identify destination market and CKD from the car number didn't arrive until the 1951 model. (1666**** RHD & 1636**** LHD) Up until that time the pre-fix "R" or "L" indicated Right Hand Drive or Laft hand drive CKD units were not indicated in the car number at all. In fact Land Rover CKD models only started coming to Australia in 1950, all 70 CKD 1949 models went to Dewar's in India.
