Series 1's only came with 1 tank and a tool box under the passenger.

It was a very common mod to fit the second tank, but you had to re-route the exhaust and remove the floor of the tool box.

Twin tanks were only standard on series 2/2a/3 Army Land Rovers.

And optional on all 2/2a/3 except station wagons, although I don't think I have ever seen one that had two tanks unless it was ex-army or as an aftermarket addition.

Did you know that in the late 1970s Rover Australia had a batch of under-seat fill 15 gallon tanks made up for station wagons? The rear top corner was scalloped out and they had a Morris mini/1100 fuel cap.

As usual they were a failure and started leaking often within months of first fitting. You do however see them around, the last pair I saw was last year and were on a 109 Station wagon that lives next door to HMAS Albatross near Nowra. Nearly bought the vehicle just for the Land Rover hydraulic winch.

No, never run across them, but then I have had very little experience with station wagons at all.

Hello all,Diana,i,m sure the series 3 REMLR guys will correct me if i,m wrong but,the army S3,s only had a single 16 gallon fuel tank under the driver and the battery under the passenger.:D

They were 6 cyl so you are probably correct - I was more into Range Rovers when the Army contracted the S3's so have never taken much notice.
