Garrycol,
Great idea, I know nothing about Holden carby's so I'll try and get the details (or take a digital picture) and either get a s/h carby or a repair kit.
Thanks,
Colin
Sourced a repair kit for the carby today. In the meantime the father-in-law may have discovered another potential issue.
The electric fuel pumps installed by the previous owner are 4.5 to 7psi, he thinks that this may be too much pressure for the Holden carby. He found a pressure regulator (off a motorkana car he ran some years ago) so the fuel system is being modified tonight....
I've been busy sorting out some minor issues and managed to find time to make & fit a set of front mats made from chequer plate rubber sourced from Clarke Rubber. Took a few cereal packets taped together to make a template and not really original but looks great. Problem is that as the floor heats up the smell of rubber is a bit overpowering but I'm sure this will wear off.

Fuel system re-installed last night with a regulator, delivery pressure now at 3.5psi.
Carby overhauled and flat spot is gone (worn accelerator pump was the cause). Found some other issues but they will have to wait (stripped thread, worn bushes & parts of choke mechanism missing) will either replace or try & source an original carby & air filter after Cooma.
Runs much better, no fuel leaks so hopefully will use a little less fuel on the trip.
Loading up tonight and setting out Thursday morning, see you there...........
