Thread: Shorty - my 1952 80' Series 1

Have dragged the next few bits out for an inspection - they look ok and just in need of a tidy up (little bit of panel work) then some green stuff

Its a bit too cold for painting at the moment but I will see how things go...... Always have the brakes and wiring to do

Well here we go - next for some repair work and then paint (good old Bronze Green)

And what do I do with "that door" ..... The old fella that I bought Shorty from reckons that I should leave it - just paint new edging around it. Don't know yet. But the map may come in handy if the thing ever ends up on its roof

I have pulled the vent off the bottom of the windscreen and cleaned up the galv surround. Shorty will need a new seal for the bulkhead - screen and a couple of bolts to replace the crap that came off of it; then that bit should be right. I am very happy with her at the moment - going together and looking pretty good too. Will be a good old Landy when done (must remember brakes - she needs brakes)......

Front end looks great - I love the perfectly straight bumper.

    What tyres are those?

Thats right Wayne - he sure would. Its a pity that the rest of the Landy isn't as straight

The tyres on it are Goodyear All-Service. They are in very good knick for there age and suit the vehicle great (although they are 7.50 x 16).

    hi troy
she's riding a bit high there. 7.50-16s should more then fill the guards.... you can also expect a really poor turning circle with 7.50s.

you might have some problems with your front and rear prop-shaft bolts fouling as well also expect a hard ride if they are not the orginal springs.

I wouldnt loose any sleep over it - I believe some restorations are done better than original and then there to afraid to use it for what they were intended for.

Enjoy what you have and its a credit to you.

    All the best

    Wayne

PS sorry about being a stranger as of late just been a bit busy with work.

Hello there Wayne - Yes, I have been wondering where you have been ... Just thought that you were busy with work. How is the Fire Fly going mate?

Len - the previous fella had fitted aftermaket springs (they have just stayed during the project). Propshafts will be fine as the necessary changes have been made to ensure there will be no problems. The ride should be pretty much the same as with other 80"s as the springs aren't that stiff mate - good enough for this project anyway. Regardless, she will be a good paddock vehicle.

I suppose that we shall find out when ever I get her out of the garage . .

Started sanding down the bonnet, doors and tailgate today ... here we go again There is not a lot to do with these parts but I may just go the paint stripper and a general clean up prior to priming them for the paint

The doors a straight enough but the handles are sloppy at best; so a bit of attention will be needed here - not a lot tho. The tailgate has been repaired previously and I need to decide if I am to replace the skin or just accept what I have. End of the day Shorty wont be straight but will be looking likt a typical Series vehicle in good knick (if that makes sense)
