Got myself some twins

Keep your eyes peeled guys, as I reckon I will have both the 109 and the 88 up and running and on the road in the next couple of months.

The 2a is pretty straight forward, just some chassis work, and check for rego.

The 109, although looking a bit sad, has cleaned up OK, has a busted rear spring, some problem with the front left wheel (bent), a crap radiator and needs some panel work. Also the front left cab outrigger is totally gone. But if I can find an outrigger and weld it on, I can then steal the parts I need off the other one to get this thing running and club rego it. Gives me something to drive while I do the other one.

Look out for a BBQ/spanner day/beer session on a sunday in the near future:D

The tray reminds me of my friend's Model T truck, which had a smilar one constructed and made by himself in 1952, and rebuilt by both of us in 1999; in time for the Shannons 2000 bi-centennial rally in Canberra? The crowds were quite taken with such an obviously home-converted truck that had driven all the way from W.A. :)

Now this one has me scratching my head.

Went up to Mum's today and picked up the 107. Got it home and started getting all the numbers.

What the bloody hell is it?

Chassis: 277600179
Engine: 170600838
Gearbox: 170602041
F/Diff: 270600829
R/Diff: 270601145

Now if the chassis started with a 1 it would be all sweet, but it doesn't:mad:
277 is series 11a 109. But it measures 107' and the front is all series 1.

The 9 on the end stands for extensively modified according to calvin.

Looking at the chassis there are vertical weld marks on both sides in a couple of places, so a chop job might have been done.

Yep ran that on both calvin and classic and got the same. You left out the extensive mod code 9. A 11a should have a letter suffix.

Now boys and girls. What are the main differences between a 11a chassis and a series 1? Keeping in mind this wheelbase IS 107. Measured. I want to know if I have a modified 11a chassis, or a rear-cut series 1. Or a repaired one that some dope stamped the wrong number on.

In saying this the numbers are a large size stamp, similar to the ones on my stage 1, not the small size like the other 109 or the 11a shorty. Don't know if there is any difference or time line when the stamp number size changed.

Unless I am mistaken, the key difference between the S1 and S2 lwb chassis is that the S1 has the rear springs under the chassis, same as at the front, where the the S2/3 has them on short outriggers. Now I notice that has a full floating axle, which were very rare on S1s, so I wonder if it has an S2 axle fitted, with the outriggers including the number added to the chassis - I tried to see it in your photos, but can't. (The S2/3 track is about two inches wider, and a swb rear axle would have the springs under the chassis and could have been fitted without changing the spring hangers - which would not explain the number)

This is what is confusing as the spring hangers are directly under the chassis ala series 1. The number is stamped where it should be.
I have listed the axle numbers in a previous post as well if that helps to figure out what thay are.

When you run the numbers through calvin with a 1 prefix, not the 2 you get excactly what it should be.

I think either some boofhead restamped some numbers and got it stuffed, OR it is a specially modified chassis built later to series 1 specs to replace the original one for some reason(If they ever did that) hence the extensive modifaction code 9 suffix.

Don't you love old landies and trying to find out what they are and what they should be:D

1956 107" CKD RHD Export

2= 1956
7= Series 1 Petrol
7= 107" CKD
6= RHD Export

00179 = Serial number

And yes that extra Zero is supposed to be there.

Where did this info come from?

Just ran numbers through calvin and Classic again.

Calvin spits out 11a, BUT

Classic says series 1 107 petrol rhd ckd export 1956 just like above

So they are still twins, just fraternal ones:p
