Thread: starting series 1 restoration

i have not taken the photos yet of the meshing marks on the crown wheel and pinion gear but today i took all of the things off the firewall and pressure cleaned it




the first one is before i washed it and the 2nd is after you cant really tell much different in the photos but i did clean a fair bit of crap off
the other firewall needs some repair

note: when putting in the smaller sun gears place them opposite on the open sides then spin around until they are in there place,check to see whether the spindle will go through if not start again moving one of the smaller sun gears a tooth at a time until you get it to line up.

pushed the spindle through and put the split pin in the other side make sure it is a tight fit the split pin that is

put the crown wheel on by starting it with 4 bolts and then putting them all in and starting them to make sure that they all work and that there are no bad threads.the original 4 bolts that were started were done up tight


starting with one of the bolts that i did not do up tight,put loctite on and did it up by hand until it was tight then used the torque wrench
marked each bolt when done to keep track of where i was at.did the bolts up in an alternate pattern

ok i have started sandblasting the firewall i am abit over half way on one side but i keep having to stop so i can breathe i have all the gear on and the shed open, this is just the photo of the firewall just before i started sandblasting it is coming up pretty well

ok now for the meshing i painted on some bearing blue onto the crown wheel teeth making sure to do both sides of the teeth.your better of putting the bearing blue on the crown wheel teeth not only is it easy to do but it shows up how much of your pinion gear is in contact with the crown wheel.

well we got it right first go.the blue was coming up pretty much exactly in the old wear marks,it was getting full mesh across the teeth.now all i needed to do was use special tie wire on the outside and i was done oh and put a few split pins in
