Thread: James Taylor's book

I couldn't find the original thread about this but I have just received James Taylor's Land-Rover book in the mail. A HUGE thankyou to whomever it was, who alerted me to the fact that it has been reprinted.

For those who haven't read it I am sure you will enjoy it immensely; it is in A4 size with heaps of detail colour photographs and detailed explanations of the changes to the models throughout production. It is certainly worth the money!

There are, however, some contentious issues, two of which I have found on my car. We know of course about another, in that Wayne's and Diana's cars were painted Sand colour at the factory not green.

In my case the bonnet prop is not sheridised as the book says but is rather rusty instead; I suspect it was painted when new (probably black).

The book states that the hand throttle was sheridised on all 80" cars but mine quite clearly was not. In fact to my delight whn I gave it a good clean I found traces of the pale green paint common on earlier cars. This indicates to me that it was old stock taken from the parts bin; it may have even been fitted later but it quite clearly had never been sheridised. Both of these parts lived in the driest and warmest parts of the car, so I doubt that all of the zinc should have disappeared in that time, when I have found sheridised bolts surviving nearby.
