Exclamation 1952 S1 gearbox jumping out of 2nd

    Hi there,
My series one 1952 is jumping out of 2nd gear, first stays in ok, third stays in so does top. I have been told that it is caused by a small 50cent broken spring on a shaft? it it difficult to repair with out taking out the gearbox?

Not realy. Thes pring plates are in the syncro hub on 3rd /4 gear
Sounds like too mutch end float. Try tighening the special nut at the rear
of the main shaft. access through the PTO cover.............

Possibly the spring on the detent ball on the first/second selector shaft, and also it is possible that the stop for the second gear selector has come loose.

Also possible, but unlikely, that the symptom is due to extreme wear on the second gear dog, or, a bit more likely, the partial collapse of any of the three bearings that align the mainshaft.
