Hi All
I have just re purchaded an ex Royal Australian Navy 109 2A Deisel. This vehicle was seconded to HMAS Vampire ( a ship I managed to ram when in the Navy.) I will follow up with pics shortly. It is in good original condition and too good to restore. Any info on RAN Landys would be appriciated.

If you scroll down the forums list you will find the REMLR lists and the members there would be delighted to find out any information that you can give them about your car, as we have hardly any information about the Navy's Land Rovers!
Joining REMLR is free and from memory I think there is only one other member with an ex RAN car!

Not quite true about REMLR any more. You can enter your vehicle details and ownership in the register for free, but joining costs a few dollars.
Actually I think there are more than 2, the very first 80" has been identified and is under restoration in Sydney, then there's the HMAS Albatross 88" up at Yetholm and included in the REMLR site.
For a little more info on RAN vehicles, the RACQ had an 80" in it's museum collection which had been a road service vehicle in Atherton, it then turned out to have originally been delivered to the RAN in Sydney. The current president of the LROC in Sydney has 2 ex-RAN vehicles a 110 ute and a series 2 109".

SupporterWhat makes this vehicle ex Navy - is it the chassis number?
Also the ARNs on REMLR - what exactly is that number - certainly from the late 60s Z numbers were in use and I do not recall seeing a format for number plates as listed on REMLR actually on vehicles.

The vehicle identies were pulled out of the Grenville Motors Allocations books (by me) if they were recorded as being delivered to the RAN.
Unfortunately the Grenville books do not list the Commonwealth Plate number (although for some Govt. departments it occassionally does). The "RAN??" number is merely a code invented by Richard (Phoenix) so we can at least identify a vehicle until someone can find the correct CofA number.
So far my investigations, with the RAN, with the Commonwealth Dept of Treasury, the AWM and even with the ACT Government (where the ZNA, ZNB and ZNC sequences were reported to have been transferred) have proved fruitless.
In the case of the 88" found at HMAS Albatross, the Chassis number on the vehicle and the Grenville Motors books agree. Which confirms that the information is likely correct.
Further, in later times RAN vehicles were supplied to RAN stations by local dealers, it may also be the case that even in Grenville Motors times, vehicles for stations outside NSW may well have been delivered by Regent Motors Melbourne, Champion's Adelaide, Faulls Motors Perth or Annand and Thompson in Brisbane. So just because an S1, SI, SIIa or early SIII doesn't appear in the REMLR RAN list, doesn't mean that it isn't or wasn't the real thing. Although that being said, Grenville Motors only delivered about 3 vehicles to the Army, the rest either were supplied directly from the PMC factory or via Regent Motors.
