Yeah, mine's always built up lots of pressure and spat oil out the breather whenever cruising on anything approaching "fast" (which I very rarely do). But it's always been a very healthy engine. Ten years since rebuild (admittedly a lot of that time I've been away) and runs sweetly, never touched since finished putting it together. The compression seems very good still. Starts easily without heating, even in winter. But it does spit out oil....Quote:

Thanks for the replies :), based on the feed back I might have a look at the injectors and pump, these are the only engine components I haven't rebuilt yet. I should probably check the max engine RPM first.

Mine used to sit comfortably on 80kmh and could push it to 100kmh. BUT BLOODY NOISEY AT THAT SPEED. :angel:

She accelerates very well, better than I expected to be honest:). I will double check the timing as that would make sense as being the cause. She blows a little blue smoke which I'm fairly certain is from me fitting the incorrect type of valve stem seals:oops2:(you know when you know something is not correct but you keep going anyways, idiot). I normally sit on about 50mph (80kph) but I do easily wind it up to 60mph (96kph) when I am entering a freeway. At this speed, it has not yet reached the rev-limiter, but is starting to run out of power. I have broken the 100kph mark on a long straight section of road. Have you accurately checked the injection timing?

I would check that the accelerator linkage allows the throttle on the pump to move its full extent - ie able to hit the stop screw. If you have the old bell crank system, there is a fair bit of slack in the system that could result in max pedal = 3/4 throttle or something like that.
I reckon if you wanted to get some more speed you might consider putting an electric fan on the radiator and deleting the heavy,old metal one from the front of the engine. I read somewhere that it takes about 5% of the horsepower to turn the fan. But if that's wrong i'm sure I'll soon be put right :)
