    Starter

Just a quick question regarding Starters.

    Replace or Recondition?

If recondition who in WA will do a good job?

    Thanks,

    Jurgens

Buy a rebuild kit from Ashdowns in Ossie Park.

Hey jurgens how is the rebuild going mate. Have you made much progress yet. And series don't need a starter just crank it over by hand

What is the problem with the starter? Usually a clean up will fix them!

    Hi there John,

There was a bit of smoke coming from it when I tried to start it, keeping in mind that I cranked it a fair amount during this process. It was spinning OK at this time. I then opened it and gave it a clean, the bushes has about 50-60% left on them. After replacing the starter it does not spin fast enough to engage the flywheel and it still smokes.

So I'm not sure if I'll be able to get it rebuilt or if I have to replace it.

    Cheers, Jurgens.

    Hi there Mat,

I know a crank handle should do the job mate but this one has been standing for quite some time. At this point I have decided that I'm going to get her running first and then see what needs attention then go from there. I've got a bucket load of things coming in from the UK to redo all the brakes, wheel bearings and all the hoses & water pump. The radiator has been recored and is ready for pick-up. Hangover (Steve) and TelfRRC (Neil) both has donated spares to get the electrical side going, thanks guys.

Other than that not much has happened. I'm going to try and have it running by September for the WA-AULROians Family Fun Weekend. I don't think it will be registered so I'll put it on a trailer.

    Cheers, Jurgens.

If it is smoking it may be cheaper to replace, but if you can find a competent auto electrician they should be able to give a verdict on the best course of action. Before this though, check if the armature is touching the poles. If it is, replacing the bushes may be all that is needed.
