Assuming it is Australian assembled, the chassis number should be on the spring hanger at the ack of the LH rear spring, facing out. Also on the four wheel drive operation plate on the firewall, but since this is only screwed on, it is not a reliable source of information and may be missing. There should also be military data plates, usually on the LH end of the seat box, but since 1958 was the first Series 2/2a, may be elsewhere.
It is possibly not Australian assembly, in which case the chassis number should be on the outside of the chassis just behind the bumper.
Chassis number can then be put into Calvin Clifton Scientific Text Services, the Netherlands to confirm type and date.
1958 is the year that the Series 2 was introduced. In that year most swb Series 2 continued to be fitted with the 2 litre engine from the Series 1. Most have since had it replaced by the new 2.25l engine, so if it retains the original engine, it is a rare bird.
Hope this helps,
John
