Could I also impose on you and ask you for any info on my 2a 24317909G ? I have put out the general question before with no luck . I have assuming original parts are still fitted have dates on the following.
distributor date stamped 03/70 lucas made in England
starter motor date stamp 06/70 lucas made in Aust.
alternator date stamp 06/70 lucas made in Aust.
Those dates seem to tie in together to indicate they could be original.

Thanks for any info you may have.

That is the location for series I
My Workshop Manual for series II and IIa says on page (I) : Chassis number, which is stamped on the righthand front spring shackle bracket.


BTW Any chance of more information on my 1963 88"SIIa ? ID plate and chassisnumbers (on the RH frontspring bracket) match and are 24408175b.

All Australian assembled Series 2/2a Landrovers had the chassis number on the LH rear spring mount. The PMC plate on this one confirms that it was Australian assembled. (But not all Series 2/2a sold in Australia were assembled locally, just most of them. And then there are the occasional personal imports.)

This discrepancy in information on number placement is just one of the minor problems encountered when applying factory information to Australian assembled vehicles. Others are that the changeover points for various bits was different, as was the standard equipment. And then there were the models that differed significantly from UK models, particularly the military 2As, and later the diesel S3 Stage 1.
