How long is a piece of string? Unless the surface is completely smooth, it will damage the seal and eventually result in a leak. Leaks can be minimised by using the special liquid grease specified for late model Defenders etc swivels.Quote:

Thanks John, they sure are pricy, even for a reman core return. I might they and use some sort of epoxy to fill the "grooves" failing that I will need to buy 2 sets :eek:
I have also got some engine enamel paint coming from Sydney, it's the Detroit diesel alpine green, so will look the part but bit easier to find than the duck egg one. Hopefully no one notices :angel:
Fill the groves as best you can with epoxy, then fill the housings with one shot.

Since then, ive been busy on the engine and some other bits and bobs.
I have been searching the internet for solutions to the door seal issue, only to discover I had about 5m of pinchweld bulb seal laying about (and who says hoarding doesnt pay off) and presto, it seems to do the job quiet well! not even needing to remove the lip from the sill. Only bit of issue is on the front side, bendy bit...you know what I mean. but It still works and will do the other door soon.
The engine has gone together nicely, I am a bit apprehensive about the valve seats, but after a quick lap i have put it back together and will compression test soon. If all is ok, i wont worry about it, if not ill pull the head and go get the ground/harden seats fitted. Im just waiting on some welsh plugs and other bits n bobs then it will be getting painted and fitted!!!
rear brakes slaves have been changed for new and I have made up some new lines with a fancy little tool i came across!
The diff center will be next for a re seal and then the remainder of the lines will be made.

The Series 2 might be different but my Series 1 has the brake line mounted on a bracket (with rubber bush) near the rear springs.
One set of my diffs do (The one i modeled it off) the one on the car does not...they might turn up in a box when its too lateQuote:

The diffs i modeled the lines off were a 71', Im presuming the previous owner of the 66' had not put them back during the part rebuild
The clips to hold the brake pipes should be fitted to all Series Landrovers. In their absence the brake pipes can be expected to eventually fail due to vibration, especially the longer one, and depending on how much corrugated roads you drive on.
