There was no change in gearbox (or their numbers) with the change between 2 and 2a, so why does the gearbox number suggest 2 rather than early 2a?
It needs to be remembered that Rover did not make changes as elegantly as you would expect, the outstanding examples being the retention of the 2l engine in early 2a 88 or the appearance of all synchro boxes in very late 2a home market wagons, and 16mm wheel studs on late 2a, both of these associated with S3.

If it ok can you let me know how much the rebuild was as well, I'm due to start mine at Christmas!
Pm's sent.
I rebuilt the motor from bare block up.
Cylinder head was done and assembled ready to bolt on, then added the rocker gear.

Hi - My old SIIa 109 was orginally fiited with a similar vintage engine not too far different in numbers - 1963 production in NZ - a key point is the lower case letter "a" - as after this that were all caps - same goes for the chassis plate. I gather the plan was orginally Series IIa, IIb, IIc etc bit they all stayed as IIa.
