just a quick warning about it being registered - this doesn't mean you wont have to spend a good deal of money on it - I've just found this out to the detriment of my wallet.

No, I would say that a Series 2/2a is worth slightly more than a Series 3, after being worth less until fairly recently - provided everything else is equal.
Which, of course, everything never is. The value will depend for both 2/2a and 3 mainly on condition and how many are on the market vs how many buyers at the time, but also on location, body type, engine, even accessories, and, of course, any special provenance.
But there are so few changing hands that these variables make it impossible to sensibly compare the relatively few sales except to note prices that seem way out of line.
To point out a few factors - not many people will buy one if it is too far away, especially across Bass Strait. Most will have little interest in the six cylinder engines, and Holden engines will usually reduce the value.

Let me know how you go with this , I could be interested if your not it is only a boat ride for me :)
It's the old saying really ... "It's only worth what someone's willing to spend"
As listed there is a potential minefield here but the worst of it you'll probably spot anyway ... Rust, dodgy repairs, running well/not, stops/doesn't etc. a 'value' figure? The prices of series Landies have gone a bit silly in recent times but the estimates already mentioned aren't that far off the mark in the real world :BigThumb:
I bought mine sight unseen - like you I couldn't get away when needed - but it was cheap enough that even with transport it was worth the punt. I had to spend some coin where I didn't expect, as I expect you will too, but if you weight it up and the pros outweigh the cons for YOU then you may well be on a winner :BigThumb:
hi series one are over the top now its just a matter of time now its s2 and s2a and now threes the golden rule is all machting no and keep away from holdem moters unless its still got the orignal in the shed land rover is the poor mans classic and they are going to get sillier jim
