This is a top thread your writing up here Colin, and plenty of info from various sources along the way to boot.
Wonderful to see another rig getting up again.

Hi all,
Lifes progressing. Finished the motor, just hoping it will start one day. Very happy with final product!
Started to re assemble the bulkhead. Have just received the new rubbers for the vents, installed the reconditioned brake and clutch boxes (all new cylnders etc), steering column – needed a bit of adjustment to line up nicely after the replacement of the foot well. Glad I took lots of photos of the linkages….a bugger to get back to get in the right order.
The week I’ve received another box of bits and pieces – a Carburettor overhaul kit, new muffler and mid exhaust pipe, a new set of gear leaver hoods, Bulkhead to windscreen seal and bonnet rest strip.
Cleaned up the fuel tank (stripped the pain in the end) and put a base coat on.
Had the radiator pressure tested and cleaned out…was pleasantly surprised the core was not rotted and it’s still all original.
This week had the brake drums machined and have ordered new brake hoses and all the fittings. Will reuse the “T” pieces once cleaned up, so ready to rebuild the brakes from the kits I received a couple of months ago.
Still procrastinating about the gear box…don’t know if I should pull it apart and replace all the bearings from the kit I have or risk putting it in as is with a good clean up and oil change.
Now starting on the body work…dragged out the front fenders last week and will see how bad my panel beating skills are. The paint guy recons the body work only needs a good sand back vs stripping prior to painting….he words were the paint on there’s been there for 50 years, it’s not coming off. Will also start on the doors and rear tub….dreading taking off all the galv strips, but needs to be done!!
Have also priced up all new rubber seals in and around the doors…not a cheap item, look like it will be over $500 of little strips…might need to wait a little while for those.
One day soon, I’ll start the assembly….think I need to get some of those wheel dollies so I can keep the floor space.
Some pics attached,
Cheers

Looking real good Col.
And interesting to see you're taking a different approach to most restorations that I've seen; most seem to assemble as they go, you appear to be fixing all the components up prior to any assembling.
Possibly a good idea but I doubt I'd have the patience.
Peter.
Hi Oneoff....I've taken the view that the Complete Knock Down approach was a good idea:-)...plus once I start the chassis rebuild I'll have limited space for spray painting activities! It's good to see a shelf full of spare parts all ready to go once the build begins...so hoping this will all be pretty quick once it get under way.
I do have one sourcing problem....does anyone know where to get all the rubber gromits for the fire wall? I've found a stack of 5/8th ones (for teh larger holes), but the little 5/8th ones that blocks off the smaller holes I can't find anywhere.
oh...and...whats the receommendations on oils? the manuals all mention "EP90" for the diffs, engine and gear box....which oil from Supercheap / Repco has the forum found best for the different areas?
Col.
So it’s been a while….life’s been getting in the way of a good restoration but get a chance most other weekend’s. Now it getting warmer at night, I’ll progress a bit further.
So…have decided to start assembly of the bits and pieces I’ve finished.
Running gear all on, steering rods and all new rod ends installed. The relay is a bit stiff after its rebuild but hoping this will loosed with a bit of use.

Tracked down all new brake lines, nuts and bolts and learnt how to double flare and bend pipes…there seems to be less brake line holding brackets left than taken off?
Brakelines.jpg
Dropped the shinny new engine in place…installed the new clutch and pressure plate….after spending good money resurfacing the flywheel that will never be seen again!

Dropped in the gear box….have not reconditioned this so hoping it’s all OK….may kick myself later but hopefully might be able to give this a run one day it to far through the build.

Installed a nicely painted up fuel tank and all lines connected.

Have been working on the bulkhead…put in the new vent rubbers….very stiff and trust they will soften up over time. All the pedals are in place with new master cylinders etc…made a mistake installing the steering column first…but all good.

Installed the exhaust the other night and will spend the next few weeks attaching all the little parts waiting on the shelf.
All this has made enough room in the shed for me to get the tub and other panels in ready for restoration and a spray paint.
Also bought a Fairly Overdrive the other day…thought it would be more fun with one of these!…..needs a new coupling gear and all the linkages….looking for a christmas present!
Cheers
Col
