You all do understand that the plug can be fitted and left in situ for a few thousand miles? There is no valid reason to have to insert plug before a mud/water crossing, then remove on the other side. Even if your rear seal leaks a little ( and none of our well maintained machines do :D :D ) its going to take a while to get enough oil to affect the clutch.
I always put the plug in at the first rain,both series and defender, and remove after the creeks have stopped running and no chance of falling in a muddy bog. Laying on your back on a dry garage floor beats laying on your back in mud!
