Just a small teaser. I got the fan blade powder coated and ive fitted it to the engine. Looks cool. Note that the diesel fan blade is bigger diameter than the petrol fan blade by about 2 inches overall. It seems an extra couple inches makes a difference...Betsy, my 67 s2a build. So it's been a long time. I've been sort of busy fixing Piglet and Bushpig. I've left Betsy to wallow outside in the weather, coz I've got nowhere else to do it but in my driveway. Today thanks to a couple of LRRegSA members, I've tracked down a very rare (It seems), piece of series 3 diesel engine equipment. I got a butterfly valve equipped inlet manifold and downwards outlet exhaust manifold, and vacuum tank. This will enable me to run my 4 wheel disc brakes on Betsy. I've got a couple pics but none of the vac tank. So happy. Just need to sort out how the linkages work. I didn't get them. So if anyone out there has one on a diesel s3 I'd love some measurements and close up pics of how they connect and look, too. TIA. Cheers Rod.

Given the fan is a larger diameter does the diesel still run the same radiator as the petrol?

Yes it does Mick. Also a larger hole in the fan shroud as well and different deflector thingy.

    Hey Rod,

Those manifolds were a nice find. Well done. I get the feeling that the exhaust manifold, particularly, can be hard to get these days. The inlet manifolds are probably a bit more common, but a lot (like mine) will be sans butterfly valve and those valves will be sprinkled around sheds and landfill throughout the land (I think mine is stored in a cat trap in a shipping container....).

I like that fan. That colour must be good for an extra 10hp.

Thanks. The butterfly valve is only fitted to diesel vehicles that are fitted with boosted brakes. The butterfly valve creates a low pressure area that then supplies a vacuum to a vacuum tank and then to the brake booster. Very hard to find them too. I have two exhaust manifolds now for the diesel. One is a bottom exit and one is a side exit. I'm thinking the side exit would be suitable for mounting a small turbo. Still thinking. Might give a bit more power. Only 3-5 lbs boost. Don't want to kill the bottom end. Cheers.
    Pics of the vac tank.

One thing should be pointed out - the butterfly operating linkage adjustment is fairly critical - it needs to be closed when you take your foot off (or no vacuum), but fully open with very little throttle to avoid having reduced airflow and resulting smoke in some conditions.
