i am interested in why you are changing from a stromberg to a Zenith. i have been thinking of doing teh opposite as my Zenith suffers from the warp issue and idle is just awful and runs super rich and doesnt get more than 100klms from a tank of petrol. would you be interested in selling the stromberg and adapter, cheers Glenn

Your Zenith problem is almost certainly the O-ring not sealing properly. The warp issue is fairly easy to fix once you know about it. And you can get new ones at reasonable cost.

my stromberg was stuffed. Linkages were rusted.
I went Zenith as it seemed to be the most straight forward...but now I need a new adapter plate which is $200 so that I can fit the Zenith as the adapter plate for the stromberg is different.

John I agree . its been done several times and always the same shocking idle enormous fuel consumption. I saw on a forum somewhere that they suggested that i lower the float height as that will keep the fuel further from the non sealing o ring thus solving this issue any ideas there as it sounds like a good idea?

The solution is to fix the O-ring problem. Replace the O-ring as a start, make sure both surfaces are undamaged and clean, and also make sure that the top is held clear of the body by the O-ring when assembling so that pressure is applied to it. Tighten the two screws on opposite sides of the venturi evenly, and don't tighten the other two until the top has been pulled down by the other two.

Also read somewhere to pop the O ring in hot water, dry then Tighten.
Softens it a bit.

John I am at my wits end with this zenith carb issue i took the old girl out for a 40 klm round trip with lots of traffic lights and i used near;y a half a tank of fuel to do so with the ting running so bad the people at the traffic lights were cursing at me. Is there any chance i could box up my carb and send it to you for you to perform your fix on it.
